ALEXANDRA NAUGHTON

Inside my bag is a lot of junk. The bag is large and I wear it on my right shoulder usually and it feels like I am constantly adjusting the two straps so it stays on my shoulder. It's usually heavy because I usually have a lot of junk it, like right now I've been walking around with a glass water bottle, the fourth one I've bought since August because I keep dropping them or getting them smashed somehow because they are made of glass They've all been different colors. This one is purple. It's heavy when it's full of water, and just kind of in the way when it's empty.

I always have a notebook. And my wallet. I've had this wallet since I was in college, or maybe even high-school. It's a LeSportsac makeup bag, but I use it as a wallet. I try to remember my keys, but I always have my wallet, and I think I should make a spare set of keys and keep them in my wallet.

I have a tube of Blistex, a tube of nude tone lipstick from Sephora that I never wear, a tube of berry color lipstick my aunt got me that I sometimes wear, a tube of Urban Decay metallic pink color lipgloss that I've had for three years and hope never runs out, and a rollerball of Nag Champa Pure that I bought from an African store in Philly something like six years ago. I wear it all the time. I have a Clipper card for taking BART to and from work and also to Oakland when I have to do a reading. I have a small pouch with a cat on it where I keep tampons. I have six hairclips of varying sizes and colors. I usually have a few hairclips in my bag because I have a lot of hair, but sometimes I forget they are in there like when I use my bag as a makeshift pillow and they get crushed. I have a house cone I got free from the dispensary. I have three receipts, one for mailing a package at the post office, one for guacamole, chips, a smoothie, bananas, and Bon Ami cleanser, and one for American Spirit cigarettes at 7-11.

I have a yellow box of American Spirits. I have a copy of Smile Please by Jean Rhys which I just finished reading. I have some folded up short stories that I printed out and read at a reading and left in my bag and forgot to take out. I have a packet of soy sauce and a packet of hot Chinese mustard that I took when I got takeout for lunch and didn't wind up using but I'm going to keep them at home because I'm too cheap to buy soy sauce right now and sometimes I just want it in my soup but I don't really cook that much anymore because I don't have a kitchen right now, just a toaster oven and an electric kettle. I have a necklace featuring a piece of warped, opaque black glass that is pretty much my favorite piece of jewelry and I think it's in my bag because I wore it to work but had to take it off for a photoshoot and I forgot to put it back in its drawer.

I think that's all I have in my bag right now aside from some loose tobacco and maybe a penny, but it feels a lot heavier.
